Minutes of the September meeting were approved

Student Affairs  First-Year student survey -

The first item of business was a discussion with Gavin Henning, who oversees the Student Affairs assessment program. Gavin distributed and discussed samples of the annual survey of first-year students, which includes questions about their athletics interests and abilities. The AAC’s interest lies in whether or not this survey would be helpful in the annual Title IX review.

AAC members raised a number of questions about the methodology used in this survey and its potential application to Title IX compliance. No action was taken, but committee members agreed that the survey might be useful if it could be altered in certain ways.

Discussion of Bylaw 17 survey -

The committee examined and discussed a draft of a questionnaire to be administered to all UNH teams. The questionnaire deals with time pressures and constraints imposed on athletes (e.g., practice times, “voluntary” skills instruction, video sessions). It also examines athletes’ impressions of the effects of these time pressures on academic performance and burnout. The survey will be administered through SAAC and will be analyzed by a group of seniors in the Sport Studies program, as part of a class project.

Reports were deferred until the November meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 2pm.
