Reports/Business
FAR Report – Hardy passed out the outline of his report to the Faculty Senate, and reported that the Senate seemed pleased with the current academic performance of UNH athletes.
Safety – most of the meeting involved a follow-up discussion with Steve Metcalf and Mark Labarbera about Athletics progress on the major issues identified in the 1999 Safety Report. Steve and Mark had prepared a more detailed outline of Athletics plans to address the issues. The AAC members were generally pleased with the outline, which will be included in this year’s report to the President.
Equity - Pat G. reported that the Equity Committee had met with Mark LaBarbera, Scott Stapin, and Dot Sheehan to discuss equity issues in the areas of marketing and sports info. While marketing has something of an action plan, sports info has nothing. AAC members decided to invite Mark, Dot, and Scott to the March AAC meeting to provide a more detailed outline, just as Mark had done for the safety issues.
Awards - Carol S. reported that it appeared that about 140 athletes would receive awards this year, including 17 watches. This is an increase, which clearly relates to the revision of the criteria this year.
SAAC – Mike Souza reported that SAAC has been focussing on hazing issues.
The meeting was adjourned at 2pm.
