AAC Meeting of 16 February 1999

Present: J. Farrell, G. Carey, H. Barber, K. Keyes, S. Hardy, J. Ray, P. Gormley, C. Sanborn, S. Shore, M. Souza, S. Barnett

Absent: L. Fisher, K. Levitsky, T. Winters

The meeting began at 12:45pm

The committee welcomed Stacey Barnett, volleyball player, who is replacing Kelly Feibel as a student-athlete member.

REPORTS

Steve H. reported passed out the letter he sent to the President, which included the Safety Committee's report and a request for a reply on implementation.

Judy R. passed out a report on athletics highlights for the year through mid February.

Steve H. introduced Joanne Maldari, Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services. Joanne passed out and went over a report on the academic achievements of student athletes for Fall 1998 as well as comparative data for prior years. She also discussed the basic academic services UNH offers to student athletes. The committee praised Joanne's work and the efforts of the student-athletes.

Mike S. and Stacey B reported on SAAC's efforts to renegotiate the policy that limits varsity athletes from using Rec Center facilities as "teams." After some discussion, it was agreed that Steve H. and Stacey B. would ask Leila Moore for a copy of the current policy. The AAC continued its discussion about crowd-swearing at men's hockey games. Mike S. said he will discuss with the men's hockey team possibilities for their involvement in a solution.

Carol S. noted that the Awards Reception will be Sunday, May 2, 11-12:30. There are roughly 140-150 winners this year, with perhaps 6 watch winners.

Kristin K. noted that Student Senate is discussing an alcohol policy.
