Athletic Advisory Committee

Minutes of Meeting on October 20, 1998

The AAC meeting was devoted to a discussion with Chris Monasch, the Commissioner of America East, UNH's "main" conference affiliation. Chris's invited visit was prompted by the President's request that the AAC examine the nature, the benefits, and the costs of UNH's multiple conference affiliations -- America East, Atlantic-10 (football), Hockey East (men's hockey), ECAC,(women's hockey).

Chris talked about the following topics:

1. AE member institutions

2. Governance structure

3. Member Services:

	championships
	television (basketball)
	NCAA compliance
	officiating
	public relations and media services

Committee members raised several important questions:

1. The extent to which AE requires member institutions to meet minimum standards in academics, athletic program size, and facility size.

2. The Role of Presidents in America East

With this meeting as a starting place, the AE established an ad-hoc subcommittee to develop a report on conference affiliations. Members will include: Terri Winters, Mike Souza, Steve Hardy.

The meeting was adjourned at 2pm. Next meeting November 17, 1998, 12:45pm.
