Equity Subcommittee -Heather noted plans to meet on Thurs, March 12 – no report yet.
SAAC - report from Mike and Kelly - 3 main issues at last meeting 1) Steve M.presented a brief report on Certification, went over the four sections. 2) Rec Center policy for athletes - progress has been made, hope that it will be settled shortly by students themselves. 3) Alcohol policy for athletes - will probably be done for fall 98 - will be stricter than university policy, and will include trips away from campus.
Safety Subcommittee - Gale - just met today and laid groundwork – basically consist of 1) a technical arm for inspection and 2) a management arm to prioritize and set action deadlines.
Student Senate - Brian - fee process presently shows a $34 increase in athletic fee, and a $10 surcharge for 5yrs. Athletic will still be well over $100,000 short in budget.
Practice/Game Policy and Faculty Senate - Jim - went to faculty senate yesterday, preamble was revised to stress academics first. Motion to move - approved - everyone voted for. No longer a draft, it is our final copy. Deep thanks to Jim.
AD Report - Judy - athletic will still be short over $100,000, but this will decrease each of the next 5yrs. One proposed plan for hockey season tickets would entail a price of $16 per, with a $25 or $50 one/time surcharge per ticket. Judy asked for input from the AAC. There was some debate about this and the Whittemore center in general. Judy will bring the input back to the appropriate decision-makers.
NCAA Certification Issues - Steve M. - Certification is moving along very smoothly. The list of things to do is almost done - visiting team will be here April 5-8th. There was a issue with compliance evaluation, but that will be resolved with conference compliance visit on march 23-24th. AAC should be prepared to meet with visiting team when they're on campus.
Next meeting April 21st.
Meeting adjourned at 2pm
Respectfully submitted Steve Metcalf

MISSION OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS
"The mission of the Intercollegiate Athletics Program at UNH is to provide the opportunity for student athletes to enrich their collegiate experience through participation on athletic teams which are competitive at the conference level and beyond.
The Intercollegiate Athletics Program also has an important role in enriching the quality of life for the University and statewide community, and to be a source of pride and encouragement for the support of the University, while maintaining high standards of academic scholarship.
In order to fulfill its mission, the Intercollegiate Athletics Program must:
1) Provide the support necessary to field competitive teams and to permit student athletes the opportunities to meet academic and athletic demands simultaneously with the goal of graduating every student athlete.
2) Provide equitable opportunities for men and women to participate.
3) Operate within policies and rules of NCAA Division I membership, Title IX and any intercollegiate athletic conference in which the University accepts membership.
4) Provide a safe environment for athletes to train and compete."
