On our standard Infoseek search form there is an "Advanced" link that brings up an advanced search page. This page is advanced in the sense that it offers a series of pull down menus for constructing the search, without the need to know any Infoseek syntax.

Advanced search does not offer intrinsincally different capabilities, with one important exception, the ability to specify a range of document dates as a search criterion. That is a powerful way to keep from getting "false positive" matches, i.e., items (newsletters, newspapers, or whatever) that match but are too old to be of interest to you.
