University of New Hampshire Sea Grant Program/Off Campus:

The UNH Marine Docent Program and Sea Grant Extension welcome you. Enjoy double occupancy rooms (limited singles, extra charge) with private baths (first and second floors, stairs only) in a conference center five miles from campus in the historic mill town of Dover. Walking is over moderately hilly terrain. Easily accessible by bus from Boston. The beach is 1/2 hour by car. Estuarine boat trip and seacoast field trips are included. The Sea Grant program, part of UNH's extension services, trains marine docents for a variety of educational purposes, from water sampling to species identification. UNH marine Docents will coordinate and teach the program along with UNH faculty.

A Window On The New Hampshire Coast: A Microcosm Of New England's Shores

New Hampshire's small but beautiful coast is located in the center of the Gulf of Maine. Marine docents help you explore Great Bay salt marshes, rocky shores and a drowned forest near the Seacoast Science Center. Investigate issues facing people who live on coasts everywhere. Develop your own point of view and defend it in a New England "town meeting" format. Get the real flavor of New England through a traditional clambake on the Gulf's shore. Maritime history comes alive on a waterfront tour of one of New England's oldest towns. Field trips supported by lectures, slides, videos. Daily 1-4 mile walks over varied terrain from rocky beaches to moderate hills with frequent boarding/deboarding buses as part of the program.

UNH, the birthplace of Elderhostel, offers the energy and intellectual stimulation of a highly regarded land, sea, and space grant institution. Off campus air conditioned accommodations are double occupancy (limited singles, extra charge) with private baths in a conference center 5 miles from the UNH campus in the historic mill town of Dover. Meals and classes at conference center and on campus; group transportation provided. Walking is over moderately hilly terrain. Conference center is 65 miles north of Boston, 15 miles from the historic seaport of Portsmouth. Easily accessible by bus from Boston. New outdoor pool, nearby tennis courts, golf courses and antiquing. Scenic coast and beach are half hour by car.

Survey Of Piano Literature From Scarlatti To Joplin: Taught With Live Performance
Follow the growth and development of composers' music as it parallels the evolution of the modern concert piano. Hear Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Debussy, and others. Solo and piano four-hands performance/lectures by faculty duo.

Watercolor: A workshop To Learn, A Lifetime To Pursue
Awareness of the elements and principles of design and knowledge how to apply them can significantly improve images interpreted in watercolor. Lectures, demonstrations, slides, and hands-on opportunities benefit all ability levels. All supplies provided.

The Shaker Heritage
Survey various aspects of Shaker culture and pinpoint concrete ways in which Shaker culture has influenced life in the United States and in other countries. Visit Canterbury Shaker Village to enhance classroom lectures and discussion.

Crossroads of New England: Marine Studies, Maritime History, and Culture
What factors influence the development of New England coast? With university faculty and area experts, explore marine life, aquaculture, current fishing policies, and marine pollution on site at several research facilities. Study the rich heritage left us by sea captains, fishermen, and merchants who sailed the world and returned with new ideas. Through live performances, experience authentic music from colonial times. A harbor cruise enhances classroom lectures and discussions. A field trip to Strawbery Banke (a ten acre outdoor museum that spans 300 years of New England history) brings history and culture to life. Moderate walking on varied terrains required.

Crossroads of New England: History, Music, and Culture
The development of Portsmouth, formerly known as Strawbery Banke, is demonstrated through a walking tour, lectures and slides. Today's Strawbery Banke, a museum that spans 300 years of New England homes, is our window to the past. Hands-on activities enhance our view. Discover what local gravestone art tells us about the social values of colonial New England. Listen to and learn about northeast: Ives, Bernstein, Copeland, McDowell, Griffiths, through lecture and live performance. UNH faculty and museum staff provide lectures on Revolutionary America and environmental history to round out the program. Moderate walking on varied terrains.

University of New Hampshire/Gilford

Join area experts and/or UNH adjunct faculty for Thanksgiving week in the foothills of the White Mountains. The University of New Hampshire sponsors this program in Gilford, majestically overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee, in a comfortable inn and fitness center, just one half mile from the Gunstock Ski and Recreation area. Enjoy double occupancy rooms with private bath (couples may share a bed), limited singles, extra charge. The fitness center includes an "Olympic-size" indoor pool, saunas, steam rooms and fitness equipment. The inn is 50 miles from Manchester, NH and 100 miles north of Boston. Bus service from Boston or Manchester is available. Enjoy a traditional New England Thanksgiving dinner at the inn.

Celebrate The New England Harvest: Culture and Tradition
Weave the multicolored threads of Northern New England culture into the fabric of our society. At Thanksgiving our thoughts turn to early New England. Through stories and artifacts explore the diverse heritage of life and lore in New England.

Water Exercise/Fitness
Structured water exercises in heated 25 meter long pool with entrance by gradual steps and handrail. Pool depth is 3-9 ft. Water exercises complemented with land-based fitness exercises and learning how to maximize use of various fitness equipment.
