The following is the welcome message sent to new members of the NH-PRIMARY internet forum. The message contains a more detailed description of the forum, our policies and protocols. You have been added to NH-PRIMARY, an electronic discussion list devoted to study and civil debate about the 1996 New Hampshire presidential primary campaign. NH-PRIMARY is moderated by Mark Kuhn and Jim Farrell, faculty members in the Department of Communication at the University of New Hampshire, Durham NH 03824. Welcome to NH-PRIMARY
NH-PRIMARY has three main purposes. First, NH-PRIMARY invites subscribers to post reports, questions, commentary, and analysis on the 1996 New Hampshire presidential primary. We especially encourage the participation of New Hampshire voters and citizens in the discussion. As moderators of a non-partisan list, we are dedicated to maintaining an open but reasonably civil discussion. We expect participants will have political disagreements. We hope participants will not be disagreeable.
Second, NH-PRIMARY will function as a clearinghouse for the distribution of campaign information. Candidates have been invited to post up-to-date schedules, press releases, speech texts, position papers, and campaign literature. All campaign literature will be scanned and stored (within the limits of our technology) in the form in which it is received from the candidate. Campaign material from the New Hampshire primary will be posted to you as warranted by campaign activity. All of this information is stored and is accessible on our NH-PRIMARY World Wide Web page.
NH-PRIMARY will also provide periodic digests of local New Hampshire press coverage of the primary campaign, and copies of articles forwarded to us by local news organizations. Additionally, you will receive the latest polling data pertaining to the campaign from the Survey Center of the Institute for Policy and Social Science Research at the University of New Hampshire. The Survey Center is a respected and experienced source of polling data on politics in the region. Their election research this year is sponsored by The Boston Herald and WCVB TV of Boston. Following the release of data to The Herald and WCVB we will have access to that information. As a member of NH-PRIMARY you will be able to observe the campaign in an unprecedented and comprehensive manner.
Finally, NH-PRIMARY will function as a resource for academic research and educational activities related to the New Hampshire primary, and to the study of the growing electronic democracy. Citizens, students and faculty at all levels are encouraged to participate and to share their ideas about how NH-PRIMARY can be used as an educational resource for voters and future voters inside and outside of the classroom. Soon, NH-PRIMARY information and archive will be available through a world-wide web page. NH-PRIMARY is dedicated solely to information pertaining to the New Hampshire Primary.
Welcome to NH-PRIMARY
