Nana Farrell's Original Galway Stout

My grandmother, Mary Agnes (Kelly) Farrell was born at New Grove, County Galway, Ireland in 1892. To my knowledge, Nana never actually brewed her own beer (Although my grandfather was quite skilled at distilling a variety of spiritous liquors). Still, she was fond of an occasional "drop of the creature." This beer is made in her honor, and is, brewed in the best tradition of Irish Stouts. Health and Happiness to those who drink it.

Nana Farrell's Original Galway Stout
• 1/4 lb. roasted barley
• 1/4 lb. black patent malt
• --steep in 1 1/2 gals. old water--bring to a boil
• --boil 5 minutes, strain and remove grain.
• 2 cans (4 lbs. ea) Mountmellick Famous Irish Stout Malt Extract
• 1/2 oz Northern Brewer Hops boiling
• --Boil 60 minutes
• 1/2 oz Northern Brewer Hops finishing (10 min.)
