Steve Forbes' W M V U interview by Kevin Miller for the Miller in the Morning Show [ excerpts taken by C-Span] 11-26-95 Miller: Mr. Forbes, wh-when we speak of abortion, and this will be the last question on that, what about a policy of containment? Would it indeed, be possible for the states to decide whether or not they want to have abortion in their state, or it to be a pro-life state? Would you be in favor of something like that if it were Constitutionally possible? Forbes: Well, I think the only way you're going to get changes of heart and changes of opinion is if people discuss this issue and grapple with this issue on an individual community, family basis state by state. I think that we're a big country and for a dictat [sic] to come on high to go beyond late-term pregnancies, you're going to have to do it individual by individual. But I..so an in that sense, I think that's that that's the way we have to move. But I do believe that uh the Smith Amendment is a proper one for late-term pregnancies, beyond that we're going to have to do individual by individual.
