Richard Lugar on Abortion

   Lugar is personally and publicly opposed to abortion. Lugar has
   consistently opposed abortion except in cases of rape, incest or when
   the life of a mother is at risk.
   
   "I developed my person views a long time ago through prayer,
   thoughtful reflection on my values and a moral conclusion on the
   fundamental sanctity of human life,
   
   Lugar has consistently supported the Hyde amendment, which prohibits
   federal funding for abortions. "This must remain the policy of the
   U.S. government," says Lugar."
   
   I oppose any attempts to include abortion as a basic benefit in a
   health care package. I have also supported a constitutional amendment
   prohibiting abortion."
   
   Lugar opposed the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act.
