Buchanan on National Defense
Text excerpted from Pat Buchanan's speech at the AARP Conference, Bedford, NH January 26, 1996
Those young Americans were shot down in that friendly fire incident in Iraq. Sixteen bodies were brought home to Dover Air Force Base. Vice President of the United States issued a formal statement. He said the parents of these young Americans, can be proud, they died in the service of the United Nations. My friends they didn't take an oath to the United Nations, they took an oath to you and me, constitution of the United States. When I become President of the United States, never again will young Americans be sent into battle, except under American officers and to fight under an American flag.[applause]
