RAN 9/13 Taylor says inheritance a strike against Forbes By DARREN GARNICK Telegraph Staff
Malcolm Forbes Jr.'s inheritance may be a strike against him in the eyes of American voters as he considers a presidential run, says the other millionaire political outsider seeking the GOP nomination. "I don't begrudge him coming into it," Maurice Taylor Jr. said during an interview at The Telegraph. "When you enter into it and you have money, the American public looks at you two ways: did you earn it or did you inherit it?" Taylor said. "Americans actually have a little pride in you if you made it." Unlike Forbes, whose wealth was inherited from his father, the late Malcolm Forbes Sr., Taylor started out as a blue-collar worker and later made his fortune after saving a failing wheel company. Taylor, president and chief executive officer of Tital Wheel International, said the primary process is a good proving ground for a candidate outside political circles. He said Ross Perot, who ran as an independent in 1992, alienated many voters because he landed in the general election without having to fight it out with other candidates along the way. But Taylor said the infusion of cash into the political process by a Forbes candidacy would have a "positive effect" on the economy. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Telegraph The daily newspaper for Nashua and P.O.
