Maynard and Audrey Heckel Fellowship to support
Extension educators

Maynard Heckel is a longtime advocate and friend of Cooperative Extension. Now retired, Heckel spent his professional career in Cooperative Extension, first as a county agent in Connecticut and later serving as associate dean of the Extension Division at Virginia Tech. From 1972-77, he also served as first dean of what is now the College of Lifelong Learning, as well as director of the UNH Cooperative Extension.

Heckel has always worked to support Extension educators and the fundamental role they play in fulfilling the University’s land-grant mission of teaching, research, and community outreach. The new fellowship, which offers a monetary award to support continued work, will recognize educators for exemplary achievement in meeting the educational needs of the citizens of New Hampshire.
