Standard Operating Procedures

  1. Purpose:  To establish policies and procedures for the proper disposal of contaminated sharps.

 

  1. Procedure:

 

    1. Snap plastic lid on “Sharps Away” container, place contaminates in a the biohazard labeled container.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    1. Close/Seal the “Sharps Away” container.

 

    1. Dispose “Sharps Away” container in the biohazard bin (located in the B-tower break room), by pressing on the foot peddles to release cover.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    1. If Biohazard container is full, contact Housekeeping Manager or Supervisor.  Manager/Supervisor will contact maintenance for proper disposal of contaminants.

 

  1. Maintenance Removal:

 

    1. Use puncture resistant hand wear, such as leather gloves.

 

    1. Hold filled trash liners away from your body.  Do not carry liners “over the shoulder” or allow contact with your arms of legs.
