Standard Operating Procedures
1. Purpose: To establish policies and procedures for entering a Guest Room.
2. Procedures:
a. Check the room status.
b. Check for a “Do Not Disturb” sign. Do not knock if a sign like to the left is on the door. Log on your assignment sheet the time you checked the room.

c. If the sign on the door reads, “maid please clean” as pictured on the right, you may enter the room.
d. Knock firmly and announce presence by saying “housekeeping". Do not use a key to knock on the door.
e. Wait for a response. If you do not hear an answer, knock once and once again repeat. “Housekeeping.”
f. Wait a second time for a response. If you still do not receive an answer, open the door slightly and repeat, “housekeeping.”
g. If the guest is asleep or in the bathroom, leave quietly and close the door.
h. If the guest is awake but dressing, excuse yourself, leave and close the door.
i. If the guest answers your knock, ask when you may clean the room.
j. If there is no guest in the room, position your cart in front of the door and leave the door open using the doorstop located on the housekeeping cart.
k. If the guest returns while you are cleaning, ask to see the guest’s room key, or and try key in guestrooms door as pictured below.
