$2000-$3000 Stipend for a summer internshipENCOURAGING THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WITH A STRONG COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SERVICE PURPOSE A gift from the Winant family and their friends has established a fellowship to encourage the professional development of young men and women with a strong commitment to public service. This gift was made in the memory of the late New Hampshire Governor, John Gilbert Winant. Known for his generous spirit, this 3-term governor was the founding director of the International Labor Organization. The fellowship supports internships related to issues of peace and social justice and aims at promoting the ideal described by Winant: Men and women with trained intelligence, with broad sympathy and understanding, with vision and courage.AWARD The recipients are awarded a stipend of between $2000 and $3000. The fellowship is awarded and administered by the Institute for Policy and Social Science Research. ELIGIBILITY To be considered for the award, the applicant must be a junior or senior at the University of New Hampshire in good standing. The applicant must be a New Hampshire resident and must intend to intern at an organization located in New Hampshire. Preference is given to candidates with internships during the spring semester who hope to continue their positions full-time over the summer.
