Ozgur Akbas

Ozgur Akbas is in his second year in
the Masters program. He is the
co-coordinator of University of
New Hampshire's Fireside Adventure
Experience Program and his recent scholarly interests revolve around
understanding the social factors
that shape the lives of adolescent males. He is hoping to create a
theoretical framework that could increase the effectiveness of
Outdoor Education programs while working with young
males. Ozgur was born in Ankara,
capital of Turkey. He traveled around Turkey with his family while
growing up before settling in his hometown, Ankara. He received his
Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Middle East Technical
University in 2000. Past and present professional activities have
included mentoring ADD/ADHD kids, adventure sports guiding,
sports/wilderness department staff positions at camp Interlocken and
program coordinator position in camp Merrowvista, and economic news
reporting for Associated Press, Turkey bureau. Ozgur is also
interested in mountaineering, basketball, ultimate frisbee, rugby,
mountain biking, juggling and playing the drums. After receiving his
degree, Ozgur wants to start the first outdoor education based
education organization back in Turkey. |
