History of the Train Station
The Durham Train Station was originally built in 1896 in Lynn, MA.
It served that community until 1911, when it was replaced by a
much larger station.
The small Richardsonesque station was completely dismantled and
transported to Durham, where it was reconstructed in every detail
and served the University and the town as a train station until
the 1960's.
A few years after its closing, the University purchased the
station from the B&M Railroad for $1.00.
Since the 1970's it has been utilized as an educational facility
by the Restaurant Management program of the Thompson School of
Applied Sciences. The building remains one of the best examples of
turn-of-the-century railroad architecture in New England.
