Other Events

* PUBLIC LECTURES: Throughout the morning of Saturday, September 24 from 9:00 AM to Noon, we will have lectures on the history of immigration in the Maine and New Hampshire.

* “CRASH” LANGUAGE COURSES: At lunch time, we will offer a fun, experimental educational experience! Conference participants will have the opportunity to take a short hour-long course in a new language. Have you always wanted to learn to speak Chinese? Here is your chance!

* ESL PANEL DISCUSSION: After lunch, we will host a panel discussion of New Hampshire teachers of “English as a second language” (ESL) or “English for speakers of other languages” (ESOL). In recent years, New Hampshire public schools have expanded services for new English speakers. Many schools in the area have well-developed ESL programs. This panel is an opportunity to learn about the experiences of ESL teachers.

* DISCUSSION: The culminating event is a community forum discussing the themes of the conference. Last year, many participants found this to be the most powerful and enlightening part of the conference. It is an opportunity for diverse members of the community to ask questions and share ideas with each other.
