Bette

Hi! My name is Bette Leavitt Morrill and this is my second year as an assistant with the M & M program. I graduated this year from UNH with a major in Mathematics Education, focusing on the middle and secondary levels. As a graduate student, my studies will now be focused in the field of Special Education. This coming year I will be interning at both the middle and secondary level in both mathematics and special education.

As an assistant for this program I wear several hats including: math and computer assistant, tour guide, shuttle service, general all-around gopher, and photocopy expert. My favorite job takes place when the students spend the final week in the dorms. This is when I mysteriously change form, and become. . . . THE DORM DRAGON. At this time I supervise the students, become recreational director and keep the snacks flowing.

My favorite activities are, skiing, camping, going to the beach, with my new passion being ballroom dancing!! I am also very active as a coordinator in the local soup kitchen and I also volunteer in the local school systems. After graduation, I plan on teaching for a few years and then it's off to South America with the Peace Corps. After returning to the States and becoming an independently wealthy teacher, I plan on traveling the world, with the South Sea Islands as my number one destination.

I have learned almost as much as the students have during the past few weeks and would highly encourage any freshman interested in science or math to consider this program next summer.
